Can freedom come from control? The very nature of bondage is control, and yet most of us seek freedom through greater and greater control in our lives. Is there a link between psychological suffering and the pervasive need to feel that we are in control? History repeats itself, every single day. When we watch ourselves—when we observe our thoughts and actions on a daily basis—the degree to which we live according to certain patterns becomes glaringly obvious. Most of us take these patterns for granted, or are not even conscious of them, and so we’re not aware of the power they have in our lives. Going a step further, what we understand to be free will and personal agency are deeply governed by these patterns—which are essentially expressions of our conditioning—to the point that we might question the validity of these notions as they are commonly understood. At first, this understanding can be disconcerting; it can be scary to think that we are not really in control of our own lives, but this realization also has the power to release us from a great deal of confusion and suffering. Indeed, the notion of control itself may one of the most deeply embedded illusions in the human mind, and sages throughout history have pointed this out to help us let go of something that causes an immense amount of psychological suffering. This awareness can be freeing, having the power to lead us to a transformative understanding of ourselves. The suffering that arises from our patterns and conditioning is closely tied to misunderstanding. Maya, The Great Illusion (as the term is often described based on Vedic texts), can also be understood as a web of deeply rooted misunderstandings about ourselves and the nature of reality. Why is it that we are so compelled to be in control? What understandings—or misunderstandings—lead us to believe that control is so absolutely imperative to every aspect of our lives? Is it possible that fear and insecurity are behind most expressions of control? There are many answers to these questions, however we might benefit more by not dwelling merely on questions and answers, but rather by passively observing the patterns we live by—which include our judgments and beliefs—and seeing for ourselves the truth behind these patterns and what role they are playing in our own lives. In watching our patterns and gradually (or suddenly) realizing the freedom that lies in letting go of rigid ownership of every thought and action that arises, the possibility of a different way of being arises. We can become aware of certain judgments and beliefs, and instead of automatically agreeing with them or acting on them, we can step back and see what happens if we just let them pass. We can introduce a spaciousness into our awareness that lets us relate to thoughts in intelligent and creative ways, as opposed to being blindly led around by them. With greater awareness comes greater understanding, and we may become aware of certain core beliefs that underlie many of our thoughts. Many people are plagued by thoughts that come from a central belief that they are not whole, that they are not good enough as they are. They may default to thinking they have done something wrong, even when they have actually acted appropriately or even done something good from a place of kindness, creativity or authenticity. Bringing light to such patterns and the beliefs that perpetuate them, we can begin to question their validity and loosen their grip on us. By seeing how we’re acting out patterns and that we’re not unique in this sense, we can have a bit more compassion for ourselves when we make mistakes, as well as for others when they make their own mistakes. We still need to claim responsibility for our actions, but we can also see them from a different angle that makes it possible for us to learn from them and ultimately transform ourselves. Though we think we are in control, this illusion actually binds us to the control of our patterns, of our conditioning, with all their divisive and painful judgments and beliefs. And so, to control is to be controlled. Seeing this as a fact, we might pause and begin to reassess what’s actually occurring in our own lives, what’s driving our thoughts and actions. We can hopefully begin to relax a bit more as we nurture inner peace from a place of awareness, and find some more intelligent and creative approaches to living and relating to each other. Yogis and the Energy Body

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Prana is the life force-the stuff of those zillion stars circling and exploding. Human beings receive it directly into the body through the air. We take it in in other ways as well, through live foods, freshwater, through living, breathing trees, and vegetation. Yogis discovered the beneath the physical structures of the body and interpenetrating and underlying subtle sphere of reality, which they called the energy body or the pranamayakosha (sheath of vital airs). The very nature of this subtle structure is movement, flow, change.

Yogis found that pranamayakosha to be replete with thousands of invisible channels, or nadis, through which prana flows, energized and sustaining all parts of the physical and energy structure. Nadi system looks much like our circulatory system, or nervous system, but much more dense. The prana body contains seventy-two thousand, detailed descriptions of the nadis was apparently mapped out in deep states of meditation in some ancient text that nadis reach over 300 thousand.

There are fourteen major nadis and just three with which we need to be concerned. All three major nadis originate at the base of the spine and move upward through the body. Two of them, the ida and the pingala, crisscross back and forth as they ascend along the areas of the spinal column find their endpoints in the left nostril (ida) and the right nostril (pingala). The third, the shushumna nadi moves up the spine and splits off into the larynx and the cavity of brahman or the ventricle cavity in the physical body.

Yogis beleieve that this energy body is deeply intelligent, possessing what Chogyan Trungpa Rinpoche called “basic intelligence”.

The major receptor sites for prana in human beings are in the nostrils.  More than anything else it is breathing that builds and regulates the flow of prana. The breath has an immediate impact on the flow of prana through the Nadis. The rate, depth, balance, and regularity of the breath directly determine the quality of energy flow into the prana body, which directly shapes the pattern of energy flow that underlies and sustains the physical body.

If we disassociate, become ridged and the breath becomes slow and weak we may start to have panic attacks which are an alarm system that tells us there is a lack of vital energy entering our energy bodies/fields and nothing to run the energy framework of the physical body. We may believe that we die from the disease which is the illusion it is the energy body that becomes deflated and energetically suffocates us in the end.

 

In Addition To…

End Suffering

In addition to the mind, body, and personality, yoga teaches that the true home of the soul is also beyond time and space, in the external now of consciousness. When we live disconnected from the vast roots of the Self, We suffer. Self is capitalized here because it refers to the divine, awake, free self. Giving the yogic view of our predicament, it’s not surprising that we are often so estranged, that we feel unreal, that we feel disconnected from our center. That is precisely our condition.

The classical “scriptures” identify five “afflictions” or kleshas, five conditioned beliefs and behaviors that keep us bound to ” gross apparent reality.” They are:

Ignorance, I-ness, Attraction, Aversion, Clinging to life, and fear of death.

Ignorance is the ground from which all other afflictions spring. Out of Ignorance arises I-ness the belief in and clinging to a separate, solid, “small s” self. Out of the I-ness arise attraction and aversion, our complete identification with our likes and dislikes. And out of this inevitably arises clinging to life and fear of death, a deluded and desperate desire for life to be small, neat, permanent, and solid rather than vast, incomprehensible, impermanent, and discontinuous as it really is.

In addition to the five afflictions, the scriptures also identify four erroneous beliefs that sustain the delusion of the kleshas. These are:

The belief in the permanence of objects, The belief in the ultimate reality of the body, The belief that our state of suffering IS REALLY HAPPINESS, and The belief that our bodies, minds, and feelings are our true selves.

 

 

On His Final Night of Enlighten’ment

On the night of his final enlightenment, even the Buddha had to call on the power of the Earth goddess, the divine Shakti, for help with the forces of Mara/s, the dark powers of delusion. Buddha touched the ground where he sat. “This Earth,” he said, “is my witness.” This statement could be taken further: this Earth is my family member, my sister, myself. 

Demonic Forces: The Four Maras

  • To make one ecstatic (dga’-byed)
  • To make one crave (sred-byed)
  • To make one stupefied (rmongs-byed), which perhaps suggests making one spaced out or senile
  • To make one thin, emaciated and dried out (skem-byed), which, in this context, could mean worn out, hungry, and thirsty, so that one gives up meditation. In other contexts, perhaps it is the work of Mara that we become dried out and have no moisture of compassion.
  • To make one dead (‘chi-byed), which, in this context, could perhaps make Shiva worry that he will die while meditating, so being afraid of that, he would get up.

If you have to make up rules, boundaries, guidelines for another person to engage with you or others, best not to engage with them. The reason is that you would set up verbal barricades is to protect yourself.

Sometimes we are not meant to all get along.

Sometimes it is too dangerous to engage mentally, emotionally, physically, energetically for yourself, others, and for the person in which verbal barriers are being made.

And because we have made these rules of engagement, human tendencies are to tear down, break down and go against rules so what could possibly go wrong when “the engage” starts with you protecting yourself and setting up “the rules of engagement.

We spend to much time in failure energy which we are constantly using to engage.

Me, personally, in the past spent most of my waking life trying to get along with everyone. Everything outside of me was much more important than what was inside me. I spent far to much time getting along than following my inside, my dreams!

Sometimes it is better to walk away, change directions, let go, refocus, restore, regenerate then to use energy and time in ways that produce failure.

Always be kind.

Talk to yourself more.

Set the rules and boundaries for yourself, that way you will know when to disengage because YOUR matters most!

Unattached Heartbeat

Last night I had a one of my DOODEEEDOODEE moments. I crawled in bed positioning for a good sleep, was extreme quiet in the city. I could feel tension forming in my body I could feel a potential panic attack coming on.

Panic symptoms for me are outer world energies that I become aware of, they can be good or bad, but very intense. I have learned over my life how to clear stabilize such energies for the great good. When the energy came on and over me, I was already laying down, I relax my body and started doing deep breathing work with a gentle aww at exhale until the energy on the outside and the inside neutralized.

I started to venture into the void the place before you sleep and before you wake up. I was abruptly pulled back to the daydream and I could hear a very loud unattached heartbeat coming from the direction of the room on the southwest. It held my full attention, I did not get the exact amount of beats would have given me some more information about the event. The heart beats about 15 of them came and went.

I am looking for a sign today, something big…

Something is letting me know it is fully alive, born, I am assuming it was the sign that the energy I released and it allowed the heartbeat to wake up, become unblocked, I feel that it is from the earth and the cosmos.

The key to using a pendulum or any dowsing device is you.

You can use anything as an extension of your mind, body, and spirit to connect to the earth or to the cosmos.

These are pictures of pendulums you can buy, I recommend that you get more creative with your spiritual tools and play with different elements, connector cords, tools of all kinds.

Weight of the pendulum can matter, especially at the start the heavier the dowsing piece the easier it is to read.

I have a few pendulums I have found that I use for certain kinds of dowsing, other times I pick things up at sites where I am doing some dowsing to read more accurately. Length of time object spends at a certain area the more information you can gather.
